The theoretical calculation of observable atomic constants isoften only possible if the effective electric field inside the atom isknown. Some fields have been calculated to fit observed data* buttor many elements no «uch fields are available. In the followingpaper a method is given by which approximate fields can easily bedetermined for heavy atoms from theoretical considerations alone.
